About THE R/V PILAR
OCEAN CONSERVATION THROUGH RESEARCH, EDUCATION, SUSTAINABILITY, & ACCESS
The R/V Pilar is a versatile vessel and organization. Serving as a research platform, we offer oceanographers and scientists a platform to conduct experiments, driving innovation and uncovering new insights into marine life.
One of our key endeavors is running Tag-and-Release missions that contribute to tracking the populations of marlin and other Pelagic species. This valuable information aids managers in regulating fishing activities and safeguarding critical habitats like spawning and nursery areas.
Access for all angers while advocating for fishing sustainably & responsibly. We encourage all anglers to take only what you need and never more. We all love eating fish, but fishing to the limits isn’t sustainable or necessary.
Supporting fish markets that prioritize sustainable sourcing. When buying fish, it is essential to ask questions about where and how it was caught. By supporting fishing vessels that follow sustainable practices and avoiding commercially caught fish, we can positively impact marine conservation.
Plastic pollution remains a major threat to our oceans, and we actively promote alternatives to plastic while raising awareness about our collective impact. By educating others about the consequences of our actions on the oceans, we strive to foster a more harmonious relationship with these precious ecosystems, preserving their health and well-being for generations to come.
We are a 501c3 Non-Profit Organization

When you choose to donate to the R/V Pilar, your contribution goes a long way in supporting our mission and various initiatives. The funds received are utilized to acquire more tags for our Tag-and-Release missions, enabling us to track the populations of key Pelagic species more effectively. In addition, your donation supports educational efforts to teach sustainable living practices, reduce plastic consumption, and promote responsible fishing practices. It helps us provide entertaining and educational content to the next generation and the general public, fostering a better understanding and respect for our oceans. By donating to the R/V Pilar, you are actively contributing to the preservation and well-being of marine ecosystems, ensuring a sustainable future for our oceans and the species that call them home.
